(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, September 19. ATHENAEUM COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Palmerston Athemeum Committee was held last night, Mr W. H. Hopkins presiding over a good attendance of members. It was decided to open an account in the Post Office havings Bank in the name of the Athemeum. It was decided to put the balance of the books in hand (about 25) into circulation. It was decided that books not_ circulating be placed before the committee at the next meeting with a view to their sale. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. A meeting of the Palmerston Horticultural Society was held last night, Mr W. B. Galloway presiding over a very large attendance of members. The following additional office-bearers were elected: —Patron, Mr. J. A. Macpherson, M.P.; honorary secretary, Mrs C. E. Smith; assistant secretary, Mr R. C. Walker; honorary treasurer, Mr G. B. Smith. , , It was decided to hold a spring show on October 4, certificates, but no prize money, to be awarded. The schedule would be the same as for the last spring show, and non-members would be charged no entry fee. . Mrs James Stenhouse gave a special prize of 10a 6d for most points in the baking section, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks,
