COMMUNITY SINGING

The weekly community “ sing ” will be held to-morrow at the Empire Theatre (by courtesy of the management) from 12.30 to 1.30 p.m. Doors will be open at noon, and, to save congestion at the main entrance, patruns are advised to enter at the Moray place door. This week’s “ sing ” should be an exceptionally good one, as men from the H.M.A.S. Australia will assist in the special Rugby day. Lieutenant N. A. C. Letch, R.A.N. has been exceptionally good in arranging a programme for this occasion. The following are taking part:—N. C. A. Webster, master at arms, and L. Harrison, leading steward, will be heard in song and patter; W. Bailey, stoker, who has a very fine baritone voice, will sing “My Old Shako ” and “ Absent.” Lieutenant N. A. C. Letch will give a humorous monologue, and Bandmaster R. Murray and Petty Officer J, Homewood will play the cornet duet “ Ida and Dot.” J. E. Johnson, telegraphist, will act as pianist for the party. This part of the “sing” alone will be very entertaining, and, in addition, the Puketcraki Maori Party, under Mr Dick Te Tau, will also be present, and render Maori songs and hakas. When the Maori Party appeared at the last Rugby Day its items were exceptionally good, and were very much appreciated by the large audience. Listenors-in are sure to have a pleasant hour, and it is to bo hoped that they will send in donations sp as to make this Friday a record day. No matter how small, all donations will be gratefully received, and should-be sent to the secretary, care Beggs, or to the Empire Theatre, and will be acknowledged over the air. All collections are for the Mayor’s Unemployment Fund.
