THE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MISS KAY IN THE FINAL (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph "opyrlght.) MELBOURNE, September 0. (Received Sept. 6, nt 10 p.m.) In the W men’s Golf Championship the semi-finals resulted as follows; — Miss Kay defeated Miss Kcrnot, 3 and 2, Miss Hood Hammond defeated Miss Perry, 0 and 4. Perfectly controlled shots In a high wind entertained the large galleries that followed the semi-finalists. Miss Kcrnot, a young Geelong player, staged a game battle against Miss Kay. Miss Kcrnot gained an advantage of one on the first nine holes, due to her great putting. Miss Kay played faultlessly on the homo round, registering five 4’s, a 5, and a 3 to win 3 up and 2 to play. Despite Miss Hammond's good exhibition Miss Kay is favourite and is expected to win the final over 36 holes tomorrow. THE MEN’S TOURNAMENT. INTERSTATE AMATEUR MATCH. MELBOURNE, September 0. (Received Sept. 6, at 10 p.m.) In the interstate amateur match Victoria defeated South Australia by 0 to 1. The following are the results (Victorian names first) :—M. Ryan defeated W. Rymill, 6 and 4; I. Whitton lost to C. Winser, 3 and 2; W. Edgar defeated Ross Sawers, 2 up; A. W.-Jackson defeated H. Nott, 2 and 1; S. Morpeth defeated A. M’Lnchlan, 7 and 5; F. Bulte defeated D. Moody, 2 and 1; A. Rae defeated D. Turner, 7 and 5. Victoria won the final from New South Wales by 5 to 2. Following are the results (Victorian names first) :—M. Ryan lost to Jim Fcrrier, 3 and 2; T. Whitton defeated H. Hattersley, 4 and 3; W. Edgar defeated C. Oppcrly, 7 and 0; A. Jackson defeated C. Fawcett, 1 up; S. Morpeth defeated R. Lee Brown, 1 up; F. Bulte lost to W. Dobson, 3 and 2; A. V. Rae defeated H. Morrison, 8 and 2. Ryan, the open champion, played marvellous golf against Rymill, going out in 31 and borne in 36, a record score, but Fcrrier's prodigious hitting in the afternoon rattled the champion. The young New South Wales player was 2 up at the turn. PROFESSIONAL MATCH. VICARS SHIELD CONTEST. MELBOURNE, September 6. (Received Sept. 6, at 10 p.m.) The Vicars Shield for professionals was won by New South Wales. Victoria defeated South Australia. Following are the results (Victorian names first) :—C. Connors defeated W. Harvey, 2 and 1; G. Naismith lost to F. M'Mahon, 3 and 1; E. Naismith defeated J. M'Lnchlan, 3 and 1; H. Boorer defeated F. Thompson, 4 and 3; R. Jnpp lost to R. Stewart, 3 and 2. In the final New South Wales defeated Victoria by 5 to 1. Following are the results (New South Wales names first) :—S. Richardson defeated G. Connors, 6 and 5; W. Bolger defeated E. Naismith, 1 up; C. Gray defeated H. Boorer, 3 and 2; F. Eyre defeated G. Naismith, 1 up; T. Heard defeated R. Jupp, 1 up. The Open Championship will be commenced to-morrow.
