RELEASE OF PRISONERS
WORKMEN ON HUGE CANAL,
MOSCOW, August 5. (Received August 6, at 5.5 p.m.) The Soviet has granted an amnesty to 12,000 prisoners and has reduced the sentences of 59,000 engaged on the construction of the Baltic-White Sea canal, and awarded the coveted Order of “Lenin” to seven officials for securing the completion in record time. The canal is named “Stalin,” and was built in 19 months.
