MISS BRITAIN 111
REMARKABLE SPEED BOAT
NEW FEATURES INTRODUCED,
LONDON, August 4. It is revealed that Miss Britain 111 which has been secretly built at Hythe for the purpose of challenging Miss America X for the British International Trophy, touched a speed of nearly 110 miles an hour —the fastest speed ever achieved on salt water. She was using only a 900 h.p. engine instead of the 1375 h.p. engine for which she is designed. She is the smallest boat ever entered for the trophy, being only 24ft 6in long and Bft beam. Scientists who watched the test describe the boat as being faster than anything in transport except a catapulted aeroplane. New features include an all-metal design using 8000 rivets, and steering by a forward rudder.
