The programme organised by Dr V. E. Galway, city organist, in aid of the Civic Queen, which will ho presented in the Town Hall to-morrow evening at 8.15, has many features of unusual interest. The Royal Dunedin Male Choir will be heard in two numbers with organ accompaniment, the “Jubilate” which aroused much enthusiasm at the choir's last concert, and Elgar's “Land of Hope and Glory,” in which the audience will bo invited to join. The choir will also sing a negro spiritual entitled “ Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” and the " Border Ballad.” The choir soloist will be Mr E. R. Benton, and a male quartet from tl : choir will also present nu item. A feature of the concert will be a performance by Miss Gaynor Paapo and Mr Alfred Walmslcy of the Miserere Scene from “II Trovacove ” with organ and piano accompaniment. Miss Paape and Mr Walmslcy will each give a solo, and Dr V. E, Galway will present organ items. SPORTS QUEEN. lip to now the Sports Queen Committee’s work has been mainly organisation, but next week some of the fruits of the work will be reaped. The sports ball on Wednesday at the Town Hall should he a popular event. The sale of tickets lias exceeded all estimates and many and varied attractions will be presented, including ballots by pupils of Miss Lily Stevens's School of Dancing and by some of the members of the committee. An amusing competition, for which there will be no entry fee, will also be bold. A cosy room has been set aside for cards, so that all tastes will be catered for. On Thursday, at the Tudor Hall, the ladies of the Croquet Association will hold a card evening. The tables have been booked very freely and another successful evening should result. The Sports Queen Cookery Book has now been issued and is on sale at Is at the Sports Queen shop. Arrangements have been completed for the shop to be open all day so that patrons may make their purchases at any time. The Golden Apple is now on sale at the principal fruit shops and the George street shop. ASSISTANCE FROM BOWLERS. Bowlers will be pleased to learn that, the Dunedin Centre has arranged for the loan of the indoor bowling green in the Savoy Buildings for a limited period. The use of the green has been granted free of cost by the proprietors. The opening ceremony will be held on Monday at 7 p.m., when short speeches will be made by the Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox), Cr Marlow, and Mrs Hudson (Sports Queen). It is intended to hold the usual competitions as well as friendly games and to charge a fee of (id pur game. The net proceeds arc to go to the funds of the Sports Queen. The' green will be open for play from 2 p.m. each afternoon till 10.30 p.m. in the evening. Local bowlers (both sexes) are requested to attend and thus help the funds of the Sports Queen. The Dunedin Centre is arranging for a Bowlers’ Blazers Ball to be held in the Town Hall early in September, the proceeds to go to the funds of the Sports Queen. Tickets have been fixed at a moderate price. Full particulars will be published later. “CINEMA” QUEEN. To-morrow evening’s concert at the Empire Theatre promises to be the most notable conducted by the “Cinema” Queen Committee. A special feature of a novelty nature lias been arranged. The orchestral arrangements for the “ Cinema ” Ball were published a few days ago, and mention was made of the opportunity about to be given to hear the bands which will provide two items at the concert. During the stage performance by the augmented orchestra Miss Daphne Murdoch will render a surprise number. The overture to “Raymond,” which will be played by the Dunedin Orphans’ Club orchestra, will form an important part of the evening’s entertainment. Other items by the orchestra should ho equally acceptable. Though the main feature of the evening will be the orchestral programme, some of Dunedin’s leading artists will also appear. The committee lias received numerous inquiries regarding dress to be worn at the ball and wishes to make a definite announcement that neither fancy dress nor masks will be worn. The tickets which are being issued arc of three colours, indicating the order for supper. No one knows which colour will first go to supper as (his will be drawn on the stage. Patrons going in parties and not wishing to ho separated should purchase colours in accordance. SERVICES’ QUEEN Among the activities of the Services’ Queen Committee is the disposal of tickets in various competitions for valuable prizes. It is reported that a large measure of success is attending this effort. The ladies’ sub committee has arrangements well in hand for the games evening, which is to be held, in the R.S.A. Social Hall on Tuesday evening. It has now been decided to include a musical programme in the evening’s entertainment, and it is reported that the committee confidently expects a good attendance and a satisfactory financial result. Good business was done in the amusement park in the basement of the Town Hall last evening. The funds taken last night and to-night will he in aid of the Services’ Queen.
