AUTHOR REFUSED SACRAMENT ■ APPEAL TO THE POPE. LONDON, July 20. Mr Richard Rumbold, president of the Oxford University English Club and author of n recent novel, states that he is to appeal to the Pope following what he described as his “ public humiliation.” Mr Rumbold said that while kneeling with about 100 undergraduates in the private chapel at the Old Palace, Oxford, which is for the use of Catholic undergraduates, Father Ronald Knox refused him the sacrament.

It is understood that offence has been taken at passages in Mr Rumbold’s book, which has been described as an amazing work for a hoy of 19. Mr Rumbold stated: “I have written a very moral book. I have attacked every form of sexual license.”
