IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT I - 3 POSSESSION OF EXPLOSIVES. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 3. Leslie Clifford Arthur Payne pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to two charges of theft and a charge of being unlawfully in possession of explosives. The police stated that he booked a room at a boarding house on June 16, but instead. of occupying the room stole a suit of clothes from a boarder’s room. He then went to the Salvation Army Rest Home, where he stole a blanket. When he was arrested some gelignite and detonators were found in his possession. He said he got them in Auckland to blow open a safe. Detective Sergeant Revell said the man had a formidable list dating from 1915, and the police were investigating a number of offences that he was alleged to have committed in other parts of the North Island, Mr B. Page, S.M., sentenced him to a ':otal of six months’ imprisonment.
