JUNE WEATHER SUMMARY

(From Oob Own Correspondent.) OPHIR, July 1. The following is the report of the Ophir Meteorological Station for the month of June, 1933; Average reading of barometer at 9 a.m„. SO.OOin; highest (16th), 30.42 in; lowest (Ist), 29.33 in; extreme range, 1.09 in. Mean shade temperature at 9 a.m., 30:3dcg (May, 40.2 deg; June, 1932, 34.5 deg). Highest rending (3rd), 40.1dcg; lowest (21st), 20.8 deg. The highest in May was 64deg; in June, 1932, 45.1 deg. Shade 1 ’ temperature extremes: Mean maximum, 37.7 deg (May, 49.0 deg; June, 1932, 44.9dcg). The highest maximum was 51.9 deg on June 3; the lowest, 34.0 deg on June 20. The highest- in May was 68.5 deg, and in June, 1932, 59i8deg. Mean minimum, 25.6 deg (May, 33-ldog; June, 1932, 2-7.1d0g). The lowest minimum’ was 18-ldcg. on June 18. The lowest in May was 22.2 deg.; in June, 1932, 14.9 deg. Grass temperature; Mean minimum 22.8d0g (May, 27.8dcg; June, 1932, 23.7 deg) . The highest was. 32.8d0g on June 2; the lowest 12.8dcg on June 18. The lowest in May was 16.6dcg. The temperature fell to 32dcg and lower on 29 mornings; to 30.4dcg (frost) and lower on the same 29 mornings. In May the corresponding figures were 23 and 22 mornings; in June, 1932, ?9 and 26 mornings. The grass minimum was below 20deg on eight mornings. Mean dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures: 9 a.m.—dry 30.2dcg; wet 29.9 deg, 2 p.m., dry 36.5d0g; wet, 35.1dcg. Mean relative humidity: 9 a.m., 95 per cent.; 2 p.m., 86 per cent, of saturation. In May the corresponding percentages were 80 and 68; in June, 1932, 86.5 and 65.8 per cent. Average clearness of sky: 7 a.m., 37 per cent.; 9 a.m., 39 per cent.; 7 p.m., 43 per cent.; 10 p.m., 39 per cent. The number of observations at 9 a.m. of “dear sky” (cloud 0 to 2) was 9; of “overcast sky” (cloud 8 to 10) was 16, Wind,’ recorded at 9 a.m.: Forces 8 to 12, nil; forces 4 to 7, nil, calm, 23 days. Daily average force of wind, .27. Direction: N,, 4 day; N.E., 44 days; E., T day; S.E., nil; S., nil; S.W., nil; W., 1 day; N.W., uil. Rainfall; June 1, 14 points; June 2, 1 point; June 3, 20 points; June 4, 4 points; June 13, 3 points; June 23, 1 point; June 24, 1 point; June 25, 5 points: June 26, 1 point; Juno 28 1 point; June 30, 11 points;—total, 62 points on 11. days. Average for June in preceding nine years, 00 points on 8.3 days. Rainfall from January 1 to June 30, 9.07' inches on 58 days. Other phenomena: Gale, nil; snow, nil; snow lying, nil; hail, nil; lightning, nil; thunder, nil; fog, 9 days; mist, 2 days (24th and 28th) ; dew, 4 days; hoar frost, 14 days; rime. 5 days (19th to 23rd) : glazed frost, 4 days (12th, 14th, 28th, 29th); aurora, nil; after glow, 1 (June 8). The series of fogs occurred as follows: а. (2) June 11. early morning till б, p.m. on 13th, 62 hours; (3) June 18. 11.30 a.m. till early morning of 23rd, 112 hours; (4) June 25 from 5 to 9 p.m.; June 26, 6 p.m. (ill 11 p.m. on 27th, 29 hours. Light snowfalls occurred on Dunstau Range on June 4,6, 14, and 25, none reaching to below about 3300 ft altitude. General remarks: The month was remarkable for dense fogs (visibility generally around 200 yards) persisting for periods very much longer than any liithcrfo recorded at this station; also for long-continued rime, extreme humidity, and an entire absence of wind with a velocity of more than throe miles an hour.
