BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS (From Our Own Correspondent.) ftALCLUTHA, July 3. . RUGBY FOOTBALL. Air R. Scott occupied the chair at the weekly meeting of the executive of the South Otago Sub-union. The Woodlands Club forwarded an appeal to the Otago Union against the decision of the sub-union to suspend Wybrow, a Woodlands player, for three years for striking an Owaka player, on the ground that the penalty was too severe. —Appeal to be serit on to the Otago Union. At A. Good reporter] having ordered off a Crescent junior player for questioning bis decisions.—lt was decided that the player’s name be placed on the cautioned, list. Referees for next Saturday were appointed as follows: Crescent II v. Coast, at Glenledi (Air Alarshall); Toko 11 v. Clntha 11, at Balclutha (Air George Alitchell); Toko 111 v. Crescent 111, at Kaitangata (Air Watson); South Otago High School v. Toko District High School, at Alilton (Air J. Powley). Owing to the representative match at Heriot there will be no senior games. The following team has been selected to represent South Otago against Western Districts in the annual • fixture to be played at Heriot on Saturday:—J. Roy (Clinton); S. Bisset, Sutton (Crescent), Rutherford. (Toko); Stanaway (Crescent), G. Barron (Star); A. Woodhead (Toko; captain); W. Anderson, T. Hughes (Crescent), K. Davidson, P. Donnelly (Toko), A. Orr (Clinton), E. Richardson (Star), A. Boddington (Clntha), C. Anderson (Star). Emergencies: Fletcher (Clinton), J. Latta and H. Jackman (Owaka). Air R. Scott (Kaitangata) will travel with the team as manager. CHARGES OF THEFT. Two young men named Leonard S. Hedges (Into of Dunedin, bootmaker) and John Grendon Philip Green, of Ravensbourne, tinsmith, were arrested by Constable Boyle at Lovell’s Flat at 11.30 to-day and brought to Balclutha. This afternoon the men were charged, before Air W. Kean, J.P., with the theft on or about Alay 20, at Four-mile Creek, near Balclutha, of five motor tyres, tubes, and rims, one front Ford seat, and a quantity of tools* to the value of £l4, the property- of George Stanley Aloffat, of Te Houka. Constable Boyle asked for a remand to Dunedin till Friday next, and this was granted. GOLF. , ■ The Balclutha-.Ladies’ Golf Club on Saturday held a Sealed Hole Match for a trophy presented by Airs T. AI. Thompson. The winner wag Airs J. Sinclair.
