MALE CHOIR CONCERT

Concerts of the Royal Dunedin Male Choir are always welcomed, and the one to be held in the Town Hall on Monday, July 10, promises to be well up to the standard set in the past. The choir items are:~“Home and Liberty” (Acton), a martial piece, which suits the men’s voices admirably (tenor solo, Mr Bachop); “All in the April Evening” (Robertson); four new part songs—“ The Lee Shore ” (S. Coleridge-Taylor), the gift of Dr W. Evans, vice-president, a Russian hymn with solo for Mr C. S. Hawes, “Jubilate” (arranged for male chorus by Dr V. E. Galway, who is playing the accompaniment on the organ), “The Comrade” (Dr E. A, Challinor), which is a presentation by the president, Mr David E. Theomin, and a Scottish song, “ Wae’s Me for Prince Charlie,” presented by a vice-president, Mr John Hope. The other choir contributions arc an excerpt from Handel’s “Judas Maccabams,” arranged by Percy E. Fletcher, and the triumphal march, “Damascus,” a rousing part song by Sir Michael Costa. The lady soloist is Mias Clare Dillon, whose voice can handle with consummate case the most difficult of solos. Choir soloists are Mr John D. MTvechnie (bass) and Mr Rowland W. Dunbar (tenor). The instrumentalist is a violinist who has already won praise from a Dunedin audience, Mr Rees M'Conachy, of Timaru. He is to present two bracketed items in the early part of the programme.
