AUSTRALIAN CITRUS FRUITS

■ . ■ TO THE EDITOR. Sm,-v-“ Hold On ” states that' a game of poker is being played between Australia and. New Zealand with regard .to potatoes and oranges. This is the general idea, but it is incorrect according to the Acting Prime Minister, who stated we were not bartering potatoes, for oranges, but that we were trying to secure a market in America for our large-sized apples and pears, and if' we imported Australian oranges this market might be jeopardised. We import large quantities of American fruite such as‘lemons; which were sold’ to-day. at 75s per case, and Valencias (seeded oranges). 40s per case, and, before America will take our fruit, she evidently insists on particularly stringent safeguards and duties, although we give her an open market for, her'fruits. —I am, etc.. Wholesaler. - June 30.
