ROTARY CONVENTION

ADDRESS BY MR MILNER “ THE NEW WORLD ORDER ” (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BOSTON, June 28. (Received June 29, at 11.50 p.m.) To-day’e plenary session of the Rotary convention heard a discussion on international affairs by a French delegate, M. Maurice du Perrey, who urged the stabilisation of currencies, a return to gold, and an international Customs armistice. The session also heard an address on the international service of Rotary by Mr Frank Milner, of New Zealand. Mr Milner’s subject was “ The New World Order 'from the Rotary Standpoint.” He called upon Rotary to

pool all its moral resources to swing America into a fuller and more generous association with Europe and widen America’s participation in world l responsibility and the stabilisation of peace. He urged that a middle course must be found between the jingoisms of nationalism and excessive _ internationalism, which runs to pacificism. He called upon the new world order to indict war as an anachronism and a relic of barbarism. The convention elected Mr John Nelson, of Montreal, international president, and Mr Rufus Chapin, of Chicago, was reelected treasurer. ORATORICAL TRIUMPH. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, June 29. An oratorical triumph was scored by Mr Frank Milner, speaking yesterday at the International Rotary Convention at Boston. News of Mr Milner’s success reached Hamilton by a cablegram received by Mr Harry Valder, district governor, from Mr T. C. List. The cable message was as follows;-—" Mr Frank Milner scored a complete triumph. His address was received with unparalleled enthusiasm.” At the New Zealand Rotary Conference at Palmerston North in March Mr Milner created such a sensation with an address on “ War Debts and Reparations ” that representations were made by Rotarians in New Zealand, with the result that he was invited by the Rotary International to follow M. de Cock Bulling in a discussion on “ The New World Order.” ■"
