CHINESE ASSASSINS
FOUR ON TRIAL ASTONISHING ADMISSIONS. SHANGHAI, June 28. (Received June 29, at 1.30 a.m.) Four Chinese natives at Hupeh were charged in the Chinese court to-day with being members of a gang of assassins and astonishingly confessed that they arrived at Shanghai two years ago for the purpose of murdering members of the Lytton Commission and Mr T. V. Soong. The attempt on Mr Soong's life was made in 1931 when he was Minister of Finance. He alighted from a train and the thugs opened fire with revolvers, killing one of Mr Soong's secretaries, but Mr Soong was not injured. p When the members of the Lytton party arrived in Shanghai they entered the principal hotel and were trailed by the assassins, according to their confessions. They did not see a chance of shooting, however, owing to the effectiveness of the police precautions, and stole away.
