DEBT OWING BY CHINESE WRONG MAN IMPRISONED (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 26. Willie Tong, who served four days in the Mount Eden Prison, is not Tai Sing. This much was decided by Mr Justice Reed this, morning, when he ordered Tong's release.' One counsel said the position seemed to be that Tong for a long time had been carrying on as Tai Sing, but he had no evidence to offer. Counsel for the Chinese said he had a witness to prove that Tong was not Sing. His Honor said the defendant had behaved in an absurd way. The amount involved in the debt proceedings was only £B, and, although the papers had been wrongly served on him, (he allowed the proceedings to go on, and actually went to gaol. , The judge refused to grant costs against the persons who had had the defendant imprisoned, but said that if action were taken for damages for wrongful imprison-! ment the costs could then be added.
