HIRE-PURCHASE SYSTEM

SEIZURE OF FURNITURE CASES OF HARDSHIP (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 26. An attack on the hire purchase system, with particular reference to the seizure of goods when payment was almost completed, was made at a meeting of the executive of the Metropolitan Relief Association this evening. Cases of hardship caused by the seizure of furniture were quoted, but, on the other hand, it was stated that -the vendors mostly gave a reasonable period of grace before seizure. The suggestion was made that the vendor should be allowed to distrain only for the amount of the balance owing. The executive _decided_ to refer the matter to the housing section of the Business Men's Relief Committee.
