With Tokio’s announcement that the withdrawal of the Japanese troops to the Great Wall will be completed within a week, the chief obstacle to the fulfilment of the armistice appears to be the presence along the Peking-Mukden railway of 5000 pro-Manchukua irregulars under General Li Chi-Chun. Negotiations over this problem are now proceeding, with the object of early restoration of traffic between Peking and Chinwangtao.
