MARY PRATT CONCERT

The box plan for the Mary Pratt concert on Wednesday reveals that all prophecies of the success of this fixture have not been unduly optimistic. The plan opened yesterday morning and the bookings to date must surely be a record for a concert of this sort, a huge queue having waited from a very early hour in the morning. Those persons who think that because the Town Hall has a tremendous seating capacity they do not need to be in, any hurry about making preservations may be disappointed, as it is obvious from the large portion of both gallery and stalls that are already taken that the big Town Hall on this occasion is not going to prove any too large. Intending patrons will therefore do well to make their bookings at once. The name of Miss Mary Pratt alone is surely enough to fill any halt, but with the programme which she has to support her on this occasion t>e concert will undoubtedly prove one to be remembered. All sections of the musical community have come forward to help do honor to Miss Pratt, and among the soloists, both instrumental and vocal, are such names as Dr V. E. Galway, Messrs Max Scherek, Maitland M'Cutcheon, Ernest Drake, Alfred Walmsley, Miss Meda Paine, Mr Wilfred Kershaw, Miss Anita Winkel, and many, other equally wellknown and popular artists. Orchestral items will be provided by the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra under M. de Rose. The choral items are in the hands of the Dunedin Royal Male Choir, whose work is always so deservedly popular, and Mr Ernest Drake’s student choir, which has in recent years established a remarkable reputation for well-balanced and effective choral singing. A male quartet completes a diverse and attractive bill, which should provide such an evening’s entertainment as is rarely to be obtained in this city.
