DRUIDISM. A.D. Bro. J. Moyle presided oyer themeeting of Good Intent Lodge, which was held on Wednesday evening. D.P. Bro. E. H. Bezett was present officially, and received a hearty welcome, as also did P.D.P. Bro. M'Gregor, of the Rose of Palmerston Lodgd. Sick pay to the amount of £5 10g lod wa« passed for payment. D.P. Bro. Bezett, of No. 2 District, assisted by P.D.P. Bro. R. H. Thomson, installed the following members into office for the ensuing six months: —J.P.A., Bro. J. A. Moyle; A.D., Bro. Alexander Rankin; V.A., Bro. IL B. Thomson, jun.; treasurer, Bro. J. Tait (re-elected); M.C., Bro. C. Scott; A.D. bards, Bros. A. Fraser and E. Freeman; Y."A. bards, Bros. W. Turnbull and David Thomson; min. sec., Bro. A. Jeffs. A hearty vote of- thanks was accorded-to the installing officer for the efficient manner in which he carried out the installation ceremony. Bro. C, Scott received a vote of thanks for again giving his services as A.D., and his name was to be placed on the Respect Board. It was decided to hold the V.A. Charge Competition next lodge night. D.P. Bro. Bezett, of Enterprise Lodge, rfeplied to the toast of the D.P., and P.D.P. Bro. M'Gregor (Rose of Palmerston Lodge) replied to the toast of the visitors. A.D. Bro. A. Metcalf presided over the fortnightly meeting of Bay Lodp. There was a good attendance of members. D.P, Bro.'E. H. Bezett attended officially, and with the assistance of P.A. Bro. J. Robertson installed the officers into their respective chairs for the ensuing six months in a very efficient manner. A.D. Bro. H. A. Adams and his fellow-officers thanked the members for the positions they held. The D.P., in reply to a vote of thanks, complimented Bay Lodge on its efficiency and the keenness of the younger members. Two candidates were introduced and initiated into the mysteries of Druidism, _ the Ross-Stewart Shield team performing the initiation. A vote of thanks was accorded to 1 .A. Bro. D. A. Young on having passed through the chairs of the lodge. Several members paid a tribute to the very able manner in which Bro. Young had performed his duties. The toasts were giy e n and replied to by the newly-initiated brothers. n The installation meeting of 'vest Harbour Lodge was held on Thursday of last week. A.D. Bro. R. Baird presided oyer a large attendance of members and visitors. The ordinary lodge business was quickly disposed of. Royal Arch Druid Bro. Bundle, accompanied by the officer of the Royal Arch Chapter, was introduced to the lodge by the M.C., Bro. Thompson, and received a hearty welcome with musical honours. The visit ot the chapter was for the purpose of presenting to the lodge the Beazley Banner, which had been won during last year for general lodge efficiency. After the congratulations and the response by the AD. concluded, the lodge proceeded to initiate a lady candidate, the RossStewart team carrying out the ceremony in a very impressive manner. the installation of the officers was then gone on with, P.D.P. Bro. Reeves conducting the ceremony in a very impressive manner, assisted by R.A.D. Bro. Ruud e. One candidate wa 8 nominated tor membCTheiPl’ast monthly meeting of the Royal Arch Chapter was well attended by members and visitors. R.A.D. Bro. A. Ruml e occupied the chair. J he West Hai i Lodge being adjudged the winners ot the Beazley Banner, it was decided to make the presentation on Thursday, June 8. After all the routine business was disposed of, the remainder of the evening comprised a lecture by P.G.I. Bro. A. Watson, which was listened to with interest. Bro. Watson dealt with ancient and modern activities of the Druids in Europe and'the United Kingdom from before the Roman Conquest and then lolowing their growth throughout the world to the present day. At the conclusion of the lecture Bro. Watson was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. The half-yearly meeting of Mistletoe Lodge was held on Tuesday last. 4n spite of the wretched weather, A.D. Bro. D. L. Burt presided over a very good muster of members. A considerable amount of correspondence was dealt with
and sick pay passed for payment. D.P. Bro. C. H. Bezett attended officially, and was very warmly welcomed by the A.D. and brethren. The following: officers were installed for the current term in a very efficient manner by D.P. Bro. Bezett:J.P.A. Bro. D. L. Burt, A.D. Bro. D. Abercrombie, V.A. Bro. Webster, Treasurer Bro. J. Jogie, sen., M.C. Bro. D. Reid, LG. Bro. P. Jacobs, O.G. Bro. A. D. M'Gregor, A. Bards Bros. F. Mildenhall and H. Barnes, V.A. Bards Bros. B. G. Cox and A. Mildenhall. Ivanhoe Lodge held its half-yearly meeting on Wednesday last, when A.D. Bro. Spinner was greeted with a large attendance of members and visitors. A fair amount of correspondence was dealt with, and sick pay was passed for_ payment. Three new members were initiated into the rites of Druidism by the junior Ross Stewart Shield team. The Vigilance Committee gave a report of its Visit to brothers in distress. Owing to Bro. Tait resigning from the position of V.A.8., Bro. Gray was elected to fill the vacancy. This being the installation night, P.D.P. Bro. Reeves, assisted by P.A. Bro. Bundle, installed the following officers:—A.D. Bro. Spinner, V.A. Bro. Vernon, J.P.A. Bro. Grayi Treasurer Bro. Wilson, M.C. Bro. Heather, I.G. Bro. Bird, O.G. Bro. DouV aldson, A.D.B.’s Bros. Borrow and Anderson; V.A.B.’s Bros. Lennon and Gray, Minute Secretary Bro. W. Brockie, Pianist Bro. Lennon. The lodge was favoured with a visit from Bro. Jack, P.G.P. (Otago Lodge), Bro. Tyrrell, P.A. (Linden Lodge), and Bro. Ockwell, P.D.P. Enterprise Lodge). _ , _ The fortnightly meeting of the Progress Juvenile Lodge, held last Wednesday, was presided over by A.D. Bro. W. Norman, with a fair attendance of members. After some of the business was put through, P.A. Bro. Walker introduced »the A.D., Bro. W. Norman, and the following members of the Juvenile Council: —President Bro. Webb, Vice-president Bro. Tyrrell, Bro. Burt, and Bro. Churchill. A.D. Bro. W. Norman having given the council members a warm reception, the business was carried on. The president, Bro. Webb, addressed the lodge, followed by the other members of the council. A motion was moved that the Progress Lodge enter in the ritual competition to be held at Myrtle Lodge. The Druidic toasts were given, and President Bro. Webb, replied on behalf of the council, thanking Bro. Walker for the toast and also A.D. Bro. W. Norman for the warm welcome .to the lodge. The lodge closed, and the boys indulged in shooting and quoits. The Southern Oak Lodge held its fortnightly meeting on Saturday evening last, A.D. Bro. M’Farlane being in the chair. It was a night set apart for the officers and members of Linden’s Pride Lodge to work the business of the Southern Oak Lodge, and Superintendent Bro. Morrison and officers of Linden’s Pride Lodge were given a very cordial welcome by A.D. Bro. M’Farlane. Business was quickly disposed of, and the brothers had a game of handball and skittles. Linden’s Pride proved to be the winners at handball by 12 points to 11 and Southern Oak the winners of the skittles. A.D. of Linden’s Pride, in replying to the toast of “The Visitors,” thanked the members of Southern Oak for the pleasant evening.
