CHESS

DISTRICT TOURNAMENT. The fourth game of the district chess tournament was continued in the Otago Chess Club’s Rooms last evening, and resulted in a win for Dunedin North against Dunedin West. The match comprised nine boards aside, the north end team obtaining the move at the odd boards. The keenest game was that between Messrs C. M. Ellis (West) and. R. M'Dermid (North), at No. 1 board. Mr Ellis was the Otago junior champion last year, but his more experienced opponent managed to win the game at the fortyfifth move.
