“THREE WISE FOOLS”
Commencing on Thursday for a season of three nights the Dunedin Strolling Players will present the delightful comedy “Three Wise Fools” in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. The play is one which conforms to no single standard of comedy, as humour, pathos and tense dramatic scenes are all introduced. The story deals with three old friends—a banker, a judge and a doctor (“ the three wise fools ”) —who have lived together for many years and who were all in love with the same girl in their youth. They have heard nothing'of her for many years, when suddenly they receive word that she has died in abject poverty, leaving her child, Sidney, to their care. They expect a baby bdy, and are very much astonished when a girl of about 20 presents hersqjf. The banker’s nephew, Gordon, immediately falls in love with her, but affairs are complicated by the appearance of an escaped criminal, Benny Suratt, who has sworn to kill the judge. From then on things happen quickly, and humorous and dramatic incidents follow. The production is in the capable, hands of Richard White, and the cast, which is a strong one, includes Anita Winkel, Elsie M‘Poak, George Salmond, Russell Napier, E. W. Griffiths, Douglas Skene, Charles Smith, Gordon Niven, Bert Jones, Roland Watson, Angus Gorrie and Douglas Dali. Bogg s Orchestra will supply musical numbers for' the overture and the entr’acte. The box plan is at the Bristol and the whole Of the proceeds are in aid of the Y.M.C.A.’s work amongst the boys of this city.
