UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF
MARRIED MEN'S CAMP I. i ' COMPULSORY ORDER WITHHELD. (Pbb United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 12. After spending all yesterday in negotiations, the Mayor (Mr D. G.Sullivan), by consent of the Minister of Employment (Mr A, Hamilton), secured a respite of one week regarding the compulsory order that an additional 50 married men. as well as those who have volunteered, should go into camp at Ashley tomorrow. In the meantime no penalty will be imposed on those refusing to go. An endeavour will be made to secure enough labour voluntarily, and thus remove the necessity of compulsion. £ , ANONYMOUS BENEFACTOR CARE OF TWENTY FAMILIES. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. June 12. The fund being raised for. the relief of distress in Christchurch by a committee of business men has now reached £4BBB 5g 7d. An anonymous benefactor has undertaken .to look after 20 families for the winter. The families which were allotted to him by the secretary contain 173 children.
