“CANNED” MUSIC

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A few weeks ago I noticed in your paper a letter from a correspondent with regard to the use of “canned music” in our picture theatres in which it was suggested that employment should be given to some musicians who are out of work. I have been waiting in the hope that an abler pen than mine would take up this cause. I think it is high time our picture theatres gave employment to some of our unemployed musicians. The pictures do not seem to be much less patronised during the depression than previously, but should the managers find they cannot make a profit and provide an orchestra. I am sure patrons would rather pay a little extra to have a change from “canned music.” —I am. etc., \ Picture Lover.
