A POLICE COURT SENTENCE

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The people of Broad Bay and surrounding district are very much surprised and indignant at the sentence imposed yesterday on Alexander Landreth, their popular coal merchant and carrier. After considering his good behaviour since the time of his last conviction in 1931, and the somewhat favourable report of the police,.one would have thought that the cancellation of his license and prohibition from driving for five years would be sufficient punishment, but a month’s imprisonment in addition seems a bit too much. I understand that an effort is to be made to have his sentence partly remitted and I hope this effort will meet with success.—l am, etc.i One of His Customers. Broad Bay, June 10.
