MUSIC AT THE SAVOY

The entertainments arranged by the Savoy are continuous, special efforts being made every week to provide diversified fare for patrons. It is with some expectation, therefore, that patrons peruse the Savoy announcements weekly, and in the past they have been surprised with the variety and scope of the programme. The Savoy’s three musicians—Miss Rita Holmes, Miss Ethel Wallace, and Mr Lloyd Hunter—are widely recognised as artists of refinement, and, in addition to concerted numbers next week, each will contribute solos. The piece de resistance of the programme is the famous overture “William Tell” (Rossini), in which the ’cello parts call for masterly playing. Mr Hunter can be relied upon to give an exhilarating performance in the magnificent work. Miss Wallace’s solo will be the lovely Dambrosio’s “ Canzonetta,” in which her artistry will be given full play. The glorious aria, “One Fine Day,” from Puccini’s opera, “Madame Butterfly.” has been selected by Miss Holmes for her vocal offering. This talented singer has a high reputation, which should be enhanced by her delicate handling of this exquisite song. Among other numbers by the Savoy Trio are Dvorak’s “ Slavonic Dance No. 1 " and Chabrier’s " Spanish Rhapsody,” both unusually charming compositions.
