FANCIERS’ CLUB

ANNUAL SHOW AWARDS IN BIRD CLASSES The annual show of the Dunedin Fanciers’ Club wag opened in the Brydone Hall yesterday. The club has received a most gratifying list of entries in all sections,, there being an increase of about £OO on the total of 1000 last year. The judges were'occupied yesterday witn the bird classes, and to-day dogs, cats, and children’s pets will be judged. Mr W. J. Chambers, the judge of the poultry classes, stated that a very fine collection of birds had been placed on the benches. There were several, outstanding birds in. the different sections, and one or two of them would hold their own with any exhibits of a similar breed in the’southern hemisphere. Altogether the poultry exhibits made a very pleasing disThe judge of the homers, Mr E, W. Simpson, said this class was very strong in blue- chequers, ; both cocks and heps. He had had a difficulty in making his awards, in some instances, owing to the excellent standard of . the exhibits. Mr G. H. Bradford was judge of the fancy, pigeons/ and, bantams. He ■; said that he was very pleased with the pigeon section, both as regarded numbers and quality, and he made particular mention of the pouting, breeds and the bald heads. These two sections were among the largest he had ever seen benched at one show, and the whole, section was one of the best he had seen for several years i past, the pigeon which had secured the chief honour was a yellow cropper ■ hen. It was full of duality, splendid markings, and a good blower. In fact, it would be hard. to fault it in any particular. The winning special,,in the opposite sex, was a red dun carrier—-an excellent . specimen of the breed. Although the entries in the bantams was not as large as those in some of the other sections, said the judge, they did not fall short in quality, there being some lovely specimens of modern game bantams and black rosecombs. These two sections stood out on their own. The winning pile cockerel bantam was. of excellent reach, type, and colour. The winning black rose cockerel had . a good flow of feather, splendid headpiece, nice leaden and- good lobes. The prize list iaasfqllows:' — POULTRY Judge: Mr' W. J. Chambers. ’ ORPINGTONS.
