MERCHANT'S WILL

ESTATE SWORN AT £43,000 MR STEWART DAWSON’S BEQUESTS. By his will, dated October 20, 1931, David Stewart Dawson, merchant, of Hatton Garden, London, and Sydney, who died on August 6, 1932, at the age of 83 years, left estate sworn for probate purposes at £43,000. He gave to his wife, Harriet Stewart Dawson, £IOOO to be paid immediately on his death, and to his daughter, Bertha Varrall, £sso, adding that he had already amply provided for them. Testator directed his English executors to allow his wife to have the absolute use aud enjoyment during her life of his villa and contents at Monte Carlo. Testator added that if any of his sons add daughters or their respective husbands, wives or issue should dispute that gift to his wife, the disputant should forfeit all benefit under his will. BEQUESTS TO RELATIVES. To each of his daughters, Lila Arnold and Vanna Jerrard, he bequeathed £l5O, and £750 a year for life; to Joyce Verral £SO, and £6 a week for life; to Malcolm M’Nab, brother-in-law, £5 a week for life; Georgie Jerrard (grand-daughter), £2 a week until the death of her mother, and afterwards £6 a week for life; Captain Jerrard (son-in-law), £4 a week for life; David Arnold (grandson), £2 a week until the death of his mother, and afterwards £4 a week for life; Harry Arnold (son-in-law), £4 a week for life, to commence on the death of the survivor of testator and Lila Arnold. Annuities on certain conditions were also left to David Stewart Dawson (grandson) and Harriet Josephine Stewart Dawson (grand-daughter), Charlotte Barbour, wife of the Rev. John Barbour, and after her death to her husband; Valentine Stanley, of William street, Darlinghurst, David Stanley (her son), and Quccnie Stanley (her daughter). To his nephew, James M'William, testator bequeathed 2000 shares in Stewart Dawson aud Co. (N.S.W.), Ltd. Bequests to employees of the Stewart Dawson companies included : —Charles Bennett, £1 a week for life; Alexander Dawson, 2000 shares in the Stewart Dawson New Zealand company; H. S. Hislop and Ernest J. Hocking, each 1000 shares in the Zealand company; —. Barker, 1000 shares in the Western Australian company; James Robb, 1000 shares in the Queensland company; James Pirie, 2000 shares in the principal company.

APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTORS. Testator appointed Percy Stewart Dawson managing ditector, and Norman Stewart Dawson, Stuart Stewart Dawson, James M'William, James Robb, and Sidney Barker directors of the New South Wales, Victorian, Western Australian, and Queensland companies. He appointed Stuart Stewart Dawson managing director, and Percy Stewart Dawson, Norman Stewart Dawson, Alexander Dawson, H. S. Hislop, Ernest Lawn, and E< Hocking directors of the New Zealand company; Norman Stewart Dawson managing director, and Percy Stewart Dawsou, Stuart Stewart Dawson, and James Pirie directors of the London company. He further directed that Percy, Stuart and Norman Stewart Dawson should each receive £IOOO a year as managing directors of the companies. The residuary estate is divided into thirds. Half of each third is devised to each of testator’s sons, Percy, Stuart and Norman Stewart Dawson, and the remaining , half of each third upon trust to their children.
