“LEST WE FORGET”

10 THE EDITOR' Sir, —My letter, which was published through the courtesy of your paper, suggesting an acknoAvledgment by the citizens of the great work done by Mrs R. S. Black during her term as Mayoress, has resulted in a splendid response, though no greater than that which might have been expected. A number of inquiries has been made as to where donations may be forwarded. A committee is hoav being set up, and will, I hope, be completed Avithin a day or tA\'o. and in the meantime donations may be sent to me to the care of P.O. Box 321, Dunedin; and perhaps you. Sir, would be good enough also to take cnarge of donations sent to your office. It is the opinion of many that, in such a case as this, where appreciation is to be shoAvn by a community rather than by individuals, the donations should be made more or less anonymously, though they will, of course, be acknoAvledged in some way. It is gratifying to find many offers of help coming from men and women who are unemployed and “on the dole,” all of them being most anxious to record their appreciation of Mrs Black to the extent of their limited resources; and I may add that any donation at all, whether it be fid or £5, will be gratefully received. For, after all, it is our desire that every person in every walk of life in Dunedin should have hie or her opportunity so to subscribe. Until the above-mentioned committee is formed, Mr George Wycherley and I will act as trustees of the fund. —I am, etc., S. B. Macdonald. Lir-erpool street, Dunedin, May 13. [We shall be pleased to accept any contributions that may be sent to us. — Ed. O.D.T.]
