TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL
RUGBY. The main attraction at Carisbrook this afternoon will be the match between Pirates and University B, which should provide a fast, open game. The Pirates are developing into a good all-round side, the backs giving a very bright display last Saturday, while the forwards are playing well together and should hold their own with any of the other forwards in the competition. University B can always be relied upon to play brighff open football, and they have put up good games against their opponents so far this season. As a cur tain-raiser Alhambra will meet Zingari, and this should provide a well-contested game. At Tahuna Park Dunedin will meek /Southern. On the main ground at Logan Park, Kaikorai will meet Taieri, and ak the University Oval, University A will meet Union. Official guides will be on sale as usual.
In the matches to be played to-day the replacement of injured players will be allowed, the local union having instructed clubs to that effect. The decision, which will be brought into force all over the Dominion, is understood to be the result of the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union held in Wellington. ASSOCIATION. The principal match at the Caledonian Ground, in which Maori Hill and Northern will be the contestants, should provide spectators with a bright exhibi lion of the round-ball code. The Maori Hill players, so far unbeaten this season, are clever, excelling in smart passing movements, which makes the game s-> attractive. In Northern they will have worthy opponents, who can be relied upon to make the game keen and interesting. The north end team, althougn defeated in the first match of the season, has shown much improvement in its last two games, and the match should be the best so far this season. The early game will be between High School Old Boys and Seacliff, and as these teams are fairly evenly matched this season another interesting game should be seen. x . _ > The remaining matches are Kaitangata v. Roslyn-Wakari at Prospect Park, Port v. Technical at the Oval, and Mosgiel and Morningtoh at Mosgiel. RUGBY LEAGUE. Two senior games will be played under the auspices of the Otago Rugby Foot ball League this afternoon. The match between Christian Brothers and City, to be played on the Oval, should provide the spectators with some bright football, as both teams are showing good form. Pacific and Athletic will meet at Chisholm Park, and this match should also produce good football, as Pacific will field a strong side, and the Athletic team will be strengthened by several new and promising players. Both games will start at 3 p.m.
