Ministerial. The Minister of Finance (Mr J. G. Coates) returned to Wellington from the north yesterday morning. Mr O. L. Fercns, secretary of the Dimedin Returned Soldiers' Association, is ; at present on a short holiday. Mr T. Ritchie was a passenger for Christchurch by the mid-day express yesterday. Detective B. Farquhar, now stationed in Hawke's Bay, left Dunedin by the second express yesterday on his return to Hastings after a holiday visit to Otago and Southland. Mr VV. S. Trotter, of the Vacuum Oil Company's staff, left by the through express for the north yesterday en route to Wellington, where he will take up a position in the head office. Mrs A. E. Douglas, of Musselburgh, left on Monday on a holiday visit to Christchurch. i Mr A. L. Canter has been appointed ' to the position of secretary of the Otago Boxing Association. With a record of public service almost unique in New Zealand, Mr C. M. Luke was honoured yesterday upon his retireriient from the Wellington Hospital ' Board, with which he had been associated for nearly half a century (says a Press Association telegram). Tributes were paid to Mr Luke's administrative abilities, and he was presented with an electric reading stand. The presentation was made by the Minister of Health | (Mr J. A. Young), who described the ! guest as a patriach in hospital work in New Zealand. |» Appreciation of the services of Mr G. Gallaway, who has been a member of the Otago Hospital Board for seven years, and who is not seeking re-elec-tion, was expressed by the chairman (Mr W. E. S. Knight) at the meeting of the board last night. Mr Gallaway, in reply, said that the board was fortunate | in possessing an excellent staff.
