NEW SOUTH WALES FLOODS. WEATHER IMPROVING. SYDNEY, April 11. The Hawkesbury River is rising so rapidly that the town of Windsor is expected to be isolated by the morning. The rain has now ceased, however, and it is possible the river may subside. Thousands of acres of land are already submerged. The Windsor-Sydney road is under water, and has been closed to traffic. Fine weather has removed the fears of serious Hoods on the far northern rivers, but the Weather Bureau issued a warning that floods were to be expected on the south coast rivers. All creeks in the Liverpool district overflowed yesterday, and bridges became impassable, isolating farmers. Many low-lying areas in Sydney suburbs were under water yesterday. Many houses at Bankstown were flooded, the water in the main streets being several feet deep. Canterbury Park racecourse is flooded to a depth of 2ft. Much damage was done to market gardens. STATE ELECTIONS. TWO BEING HELD TO-DAY. SYDNEY, April 7. (Received April 7, at 11 p.m.) General elections will be held in two States to-morrow —South Australia and Western Australa. A referendum on the question of secession from the Federation is also an issue for the electors of the latter State, where the interest is at fever heat. All the other States are awaiting the verdict as a decision in favour of secession is re garded as certain to have inmportant repercussions in Eastern Australia. There are 121 candidates for 41 contested seats in Western Australia. In nine electorates members are unopposed. Never before in the history of the State have Ministers been so seriously challenged in their electorates. VICTORIA’S GOLD YIELD. MELBOURNE, April 7.
