GENERAL NEWS

A very successful social evening was held on Wednesday in the Logan Park Bowling Pavilion by the newly-formed Logan Park Cricket Club. There was an attendance of about 40. Mr A. Howie presided, and, in proposing the toast of the “ Otago Cricket Association,” complimented this body on producing a team able to gain the coveted Plunket Shield, at the same time laying stress on the services rendered by Mr F. T. Badcock as coach. In reply, Messrs Fraser and Robson emphasised that “ enthusiasm ” was the keynote of success for a new club, and several valuable points in the game were explained to those present. The toast of “ The Club ” was proposed by Mr Fraser and replied to by Mr M. Spence. A number of other toasts were honoured. During the evening items were given by Messrs Bell, Larkins, Hollyman, Eggers, and Neame. The Radiant Health Club held its weekly meeting on Monday night, the president (Mrs Brooks) being in the chair. Mr J. Stuart Lucy gave an address on “ Happiness at any Price.” He said that people should realise that whatever they were struggling for, and whatever they wished to get out of life, was only struggled for, and aimed at, in order to develop happiness. “ Many people are frightened,” he said, “ that they are going to waste their happiness by sending it out to people whom they may think unworthy of it. 1 maintain that no happiness is wasted. I think happiness sent out to others I is never sent in vain. I think that ' happiness should bo scattered around as j the sun scatters its sunbeams. The person who, by sending out happiness and love, is able to smooth one wrinkle from the brow of care, is able to change one moan or sob into a song, is able to wipe away one tear, and in its place put a jewel of joy—this man is a public benefactor.” A vote of thanks to the speaker was carried by acclamation.
