EVEREST CONQUERED
THE BRITISH EXPEDITION A SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT PLANES ALOFT THREE HOURS (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 4. (Received April 4, at 8.30 p.m.) The Houston planes, piloted by the Marquess of Clydesdale and Flight-lieu-tenant M'lntyre, conquered the world’s highest mountain, clearing the summit by over 100 feet. —Times Cable. AN ABSENCE OF FUSS ONLY ONE SLIGHT MISHAP. (Copyright.) The flight over Everest was accomplished in exactly three hours, with no more fuss than a service flight in England. The only mishap was a fracture of the kinematographer’s oxygen pipe when the plane was over the summit. It was not noticed until faintness and violent stomach pains compelled him to sit down in the cockpit. Tying his handkerchief over the fracture, he soon recovered sufficiently to continue to take photographs. The air survey was unsatisfactory because both cameras failed during part of the flight. Nevertheless, magnificent photographs of the crest of Everest and surrounding peaks were obtained, including a close-up view of the entire mountain peak, showing the main southern slopes, the final ridge where Mallory and Irvine lost their lives, and the summit itself. The Marquess of Clydesdale said that both aeroplanes flew over the summit of Everest at 10.5. . They felt no bumps, and they flew for a quarter of an hour in the vicinity of the summit
