THE ROXBURGH TROTTING CLUB

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING ! The Roxburgh Trotting Club held a su«cessful inaugural meeting on Saturday, and it attracted a fairly large attendance, including visitors from Cromwell, Alexandra, and the surrounding districts, and_ a few from Dunedin. The club has laid down a five-furlong track fully on the inside; and also railed off a "birdcage," in addition to making other appointments. The track provided good, level going, and when laid down in grass should prove satisfactory. The various officials got the card off promptly to time after a delaj[ in starting the first event. Mr W. Itudkin acted as starter, and made good despatches. Mr T. Fogg, who acted as handieapper, was also in attendance. Mr F. Beer was present in his official capacity as stipendiary steward. Five of the six events on the card had trophies attached to the stakes, and helped to enhance the interest in the various races, which were keenly contested in a good sporting spirit. The club received an encouraging response in its effort to cater for the light-harness sport, and can look forward with a good deai of confidence to the future. With a desire to help and encourage the club, Captain George Prictor, who was present at the meeting, has promised a trophy valued at 20 guineas for nest year's programme. Rattray) 3 Also started: Master Sesame scr, Swjllburn scr, Flora Derby scr, Expedition 6cr, Chiming Lass scr. Electric Chimes began best and led Expedition, Homelight, and Chiming Lou when racing down the straight for the first time. At the end of a lap Electric Chimes was still in charge, and under pressure atalled off and beat Chiming Lou and worn by a neck. Homelight was five lengths away and Expedition eight lengths off in fourth place. Times: 3min 38sec, 3min 38 2-ssec, 3min 40sec. TEVIOT HANDICAP, Of £l2 10s (saddle), for unhoppled trotters. He led Beatrice Bingen, Beaudelaire, and Great Patch over the first lap, and, with a lap to go, Beaudelaire moved into second place. _ Peter Para kept well clear, and won easing up by 10 lengths from Beatrice Bingen, who got up in the last stride and beat Beaudelaire a head. Chevalier broke at the start, but soon caught his gait. Firecrest led Bronze Wave, Chevalier, and Kenall at the end of a furlong. After going a lap, Firecrest was in charge from Chevalier and Bronze Wave. With a lap to go Firecrest and Chevalier were racing in front of Bronze Wave and Kenall. and they were in close order going down the back stretch. Firecrest and Chevalier led into the straight, but in the run home Bronze Wave drew up and won by half a length from Firecrest, who beat Chevalier a head. Kenall was close up fourth. After going a lap Chiming Lou was racing in front of Electric Chimes, Fairy Gold, Homelight. and Chiming Lass. Going down the back Chiming Lou was leading the way with Electric Chimes. Fairy Gold, and Homelight close up. Chiming Lou finally won by over a length from Electric Chimes, who beat Fairy Gold a length. Homelight was close up fourth. Beatrice Bingen was showing the way in the early stages to Great Patch, Sylvia Moko, Peter Para, and Snub. After going a lap Peter Para had taken charge from Great Patch and Beatrice Bingen, who had been breaking up. Beaudelaire was racing next to the leaders. Peter Para had matters all 'his own way over the last lap and won by 20 lengths from Golden Bingen, who got up and beat Beatrice Bingen by three lengths. Beaudelaire was next. Times: smin lsec, 4min 54sec, 4min lOsec. PUBLICAN'S HANDICAP, Of £22 10s, including silver cup valued at £5 ss, presented by Mr J. C. Stevenson. Class 3.135- Harness. J. G.
