TROTTING

By Sentinel. Nominations for the Ashburton Club's autumn meeting are due to-day. Nominations for the Forbury Park meeting are due on Tuesday of next week. The brilliant trotter Olive Nelson will be raced against the high-class pacers ©n the firßt day of the Metropolitan Club's Easter meeting. John Jinks is working impressively at Addington and is likely to have a big following in his Easter engagements. Golden Direct is very close to the top of his form and the indications are that he will race prominently in his next outing. Belle Lorrimer is moving along niely in her preparation for Easter engagements. She has taken kindly to the trotting gait and should eventually reach a fairly tight mark. Peter Para, who won a double at the Roxburgh trotting meeting, is a goodactioned trotter and scored comfortably in both his Taces. Firecrest, who won at the Roxburgh meeting, is a well bred four-year-old gelding by Four. .Chimes from Merce, by Galindo—Authoress by Wildwood. The three-year-old filly Happy Stella was travelling like a winner when she fell when racing at the Roxburgh meeting. She was got by Happy Voyage from Our Star. The Wrack —Our Nurse gelding Chevalier was amongst the runners at the Roxburgh meeting, but could not score a win. He is a big heavy gelding, and inclined to tap his knees. Bronze Wave, who won the Roxburgh Trotting Club Handicap, is a five-year-old gelding by Waverley from Bronzewing, by Four Chimes—The Pigeon, by King Harold. Beatrice Bingen was fancied for her races at the Roxburgh meeting, but found others rather too good. She was got by Nelson Bingen from Queen Wilkes. One of the timekeepers at the Rox- \ burgh Trotting .Club's meeting was Mr T. Thompson, who was a well-known rider

in his day. Amongst the wins to bis record was one on Water Nymph in the Canterbury Champagne Stakes of 1883. Electric Chimes, who won the Trial Stakes at the Roxburgh Trotting Club's meeting, i 6 a four-year-old gelding by Four Chimes. The Welcome Handicap for three and four-year-olds which will be run on the second day of the Metropolitan Club's Easter meeting has drawn no fewer than 21 nominations. At this early stage it can be said that Sunny Ducrow, Lilian. Bond, Golden Direct, and Little Nelson are sure to be among the favourites.

The Southland-bred pacer Satin King is set down to make a reappearance at Addington at Easter. Apparently he has thrown off the unsoundnesg that troubled him, and if O. E. Hooper can keep him right the winning of the next New Zealand Cup will not be beyond him. One of the features of the second day’s card at the Metropolitan Club’s Easter meeting should be the Champion Trotters’ Handicap of one mile and a-half, with a 3.24 class. Those nominated are Todd Lonzia, Olive Nelson, Stanley T„ Huon Voyage, Louis Bingen, Wrackler, Writer, Trampfast, and Peberwah, and they should stage a thrilling contest.
