LAWN TENNIS
USE OF HARDER BALL FEDERATION’S DECISION. PARIS, March 21. The International Lawn Tennis Federation unanimously decided, commencing on January 1 next, that a harder ball must be used in all parts of the world. The decision means that • the deformation of the ball will be about .200 compared with the present .290. It will probably be imperceptible to ordinary players, but noticeable to first class players. DAVIS CUP COMPETITION. BRAZIL WITHDRAWS. RIO DE JANEIRO, March 21. (Received March 22, at 9 p.m.) The Brazilian Sports Confederation decided on Tuesday to withdraw from this year’s Davis Cup competition. The illness of Ricardo and the inability of Nelson to leave business made it impossible to gather a strong team for the first round matches with Chile. The withdrawal will send Chile into the second round in the South American zone against Uruguay.
