The hon. secretary of the North Otago Amateur Athletic Club wrote stating that the Secondary Schoolmasters’ Conference . had recommended that records established in the 440 Yards, 880 Yards, and Mile events at the secondary schools’ championships be recognised. The manager of the Otago team to the New Zealand championships at Christchurch (Mr L, M. Wright) presented a report on the meeting, and stated that ‘ Otago had tied with Canterbury for the ' Queensland Jubilee Shield, which was V awarded to the centre breaking most 1 standards and records. Otago would thus ' hold the shield for six months. Mr * Wright referred to the excellent perform- ( ances of A. A. Cameron and M. R. Spillane in the Hop, Step, and Jump and ’ Hammer Throw respectively and of J. 6. ‘ Barnes in, the Mile, which, he said, was acknowledged as the best race of the meeting. G. S. Cabot had been unfortu- ? mate in being “ heeled ” twice in one of • the walks, with the result that on each occasion he lost a shoe and thus was - placed at a considerable disadvantage. It *• wag considered, however, that these inci- . dents were entirely accidental. Mr , Wright concluded by referring to the ex- • cellcnt conduct of the Otago team on and off the field and to the hospitable manner ? in which they had been entertained by 1 the Canterbury officials.—An interesting report on the form of the Otago competitors at the championships was presented by Mr R. 0. Johnson, and Mr C. G. . Lucas submitted a report on cycling matters discussed at the annual conference.
