AUSTRALIAN POULTRY
IMPORTATION INTO CANADA AN EMBARGO PROBABLE. OTTAWA, December 12. It was stated by the Dominion Department of Agriculture to-day that a proposal to prohibit the importation into Canada pf poultry; from Australia, as made by the Poultry Committee of the British- Columbia Poultry Conference to Mr William Atkinson (British Columbia Minister of Agriculture), may be in the nature of a retaliatory measure. The British Columbia conference is seeking an embargo against Australian poultry because of the presence of Newcastle disease -in some parts of that country. The Department of Agriculture, here states that Australia has put into effect an order prohibiting the entry of poultry into the Commonwealth from North America because of infectious bronchitis. No intimation was given as to what action is likely if the British Columbia resolution forwarded to the Dominion Government.*
