CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee advised that, with the approval of the Department of Health, it was intended to install an X-ray plant at the sanatorium. —Received. The secretary of the Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board advised that after July 1, 1933, the board would not approve of the. appointment of any person to the position of matron of a hospital which was a training -school for pupil nurses unless such person was registered .both as a nurse and as a midwife or maternity nurse. This decision had been arrived at as it had been brought to the board’s notice that very often maternity cases in which there were complications were sent to the public hospitals for treatment where a matron had'no qualifications as a maternity nurse, and where there was no sister with such qualifications. It was held, therefore, that the training of pupil nurses was not what it should be because of this lack of knowledge on the part of those attending the cases. —Received. , The secretary of the Hospital Boards' Association forwarded a lengthy circular dealing with the executive’s opinion on the National Expenditure Commission’s report.—Received. The Unemployment Commissioner forwarded circulars dealing with the new rates of pay under the No. 5 scheme, and advised that the board would in future be responsible for the insurance of relief workers.—Received. « FINANCE. The secretary (Mr W. Roy) reported that for the financial period ended October 11 the receipts amounted to £ll9B 13s lid and the expenditure to £1037 2a 2d. The debit balance at September 1 was £925 14s 6d, making the debit balance to date £764 2s 9d.—The report was adopted.
