A fierce north-west wind on Saturday, with ,a brief hailstorm in the later afternoon was followed by steady rain, which,continued throughout the nigßt. The mountains have received a fresh coating of snow, but the wind is now southerly and the weather appears settled. ./ ' GOLF. The ninth golf match of the season for Mr John Faulks's medals was played on Saturday in windy weather. The two last pairs finishing in a violent hailstorm. The following are the best cards:: — - . ' In the Wanaka Gun Club's last nine bird shoot for a vase, B. M. Dickie, A. M'Kegg, and E. Gillespie tied. In the shoot oft* Dickie won from M'Kegg on the fifteenth bird. In the sweepstake (six birds) M. Templeton, D. Weather conditions;', were good, and''the shooting was first-class. Rifleman W. J. Gillespie, who scored 34 at 500 yards and thereby won the championship, was heartily congratulated by his fellow-members. W. J. Gillespie also holds the gold rifle. PERSONAL. .'■-:.•: - ' Mr P. R. Sargood spent the week-end in Pembroke. Mrs and Miss Haggitt, of Dunedin, have been staying at the Wanaka Hotel during the past week. Mrs Sutherland Ross and family are spending the school vacation at Wanaka.
