COURSING The public of Oamaru will have the opportunity of witnessing one of the most interesting meetings held under the auspices of the North Otago Coursing Club at the racecourse this afternoon. Three stakes are to be decided, the main feature of the programme being the Wise Memorial Stake, for which 12 of the best local dogs have been entered. This stake will be an annual fixture, the cup having been presented by Mr 0. R. Wise, of Oamaru. In addition to the above, two eight-dog juvenile stakes will also be decided, and an excellent day’s coursing is assured. ; PERSONAL Prior to her departure from the Waitaki Girls’ High School, Miss Day, who for the past few years has. been a member of the teaching staff of the school, was met by other members of the staff and presented with two very beautiful and useful gifts. Miss J. B. Wilsod (principal), in making the presentation, wished Miss Day every success and happiness for her married life. Miss Day was also the recipient of two useful presents from her form children. . Queen’s Hotel.—Mr'C. Peters. Mr N. Tingey (Christchurch), Mrs Birnie (Ashburton), Mr G. S. Jober, Mr S. M. Faircloth (Dunedin). New Club Hotel.—Mr and Mrs J. Campbell (Lumsden), Mr J. Thompson (Riverton). Mrs 0. Black (Waikaka). At the Waitaki Count Council meeting yesterday the chairman (Mr A. M'lnnes) referred to the passing, of Mrs W. H. Frith, who had taken a very active part in public affairs, especially during' the war. Mrs Frith was a shipmate of his in coming to New Zealand, and he moved that a motion of sympathy be passed with Mr W. H. Frith in his loss, This was carried in the usual way. as were also motions of condolence with the relatives of Messrs William Robertson (Incholme), John Finlayson (Herbert), and John Frhnldin (Kaknmii). White Hart Hotel.—Mr and Mrs Rule, Mr and Airs M'Caull (Matama Island), Mr and Mrs O’Connell (Macraes Flat), Mr and Mrs R. Crawford, Master PCrawford, Mr Deans, Mr Butler, Mr and Mrs G. R. Marks (Dunedin), Mr C. Peoples. Mr H. Hadley (Tim'aru), Mrs Mvers, Mrs M'Gougb, Miss Myers, Master Myers, Mr Brown, Mr Murray, Mr Ray "(Christchurch). BAND RECITAL A recital will be given at the Oamaru Public Gardens to-morrow afternoon by the Oamaru Municipal Band, the programme including the marches Gill Bridge” and “North Star”; trombone solo, “Drinking”; cornet solo, Paragon”; overture, “Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna”; selection, Daughter of the Regiment ” and two hymns. MEADOWBANK BOWLING CLUB There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Meadowbank Bowling Club, the president (Mr J. Robertson) occupying the chair. Mr Robertson, in reviewing the activities ot the past year, said the balance sheet showed that the finances of the club were in a satisfactory position, the club having more than paid its way. The annual ieport and balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £lB 16s 6d, were adopted, ihe statement of assets and liabilities showed a surplus of assets over liabilities of £514 18s Bd. , it _ The office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—President, Mr W. J. Chappell; vice-president, Mr G. Cartwright; treasurer, Mr A. Mackay; secretary, Mr S. Mollison; selector, Mr W. Denholm; Match Committee —Messrs W. Campbell (convener), W. Blacklock, and J Hart; Social Committee —Messrs J. Caldow (convener), J. Hart, and A. Robertson; Green Committee —Messrs J. M'Kay (convener), AV. Denholm, and H. Donald; additional members of executive, Messrs W. Denholm and H. Martin; auditor, Mr W. Brown; delegates to centre, Messrs W. J. Chappell and G. Cartwright; delegates to the Tournament Committee— Messrs W. Denholm, T. R. Berry, and J. Robertson. Considerable discussion ensued on the question of greenkeepers, and finally it was decided to accept the offer of three members to act in that capacity, Mr J. Robertson explaining that these members,

in making the offer, did .so solely to help the clubs finances and so enable a rebate to be made on subscriptions. The president reported that the executive had gone into the question of finance and had recommended that this year a' rebate of 18s.be made on subscriptions if paid before December 31.—The recommendation was approved. ■ It was resolved to record a minute of appreciation of the retiring president’s (Mr J. Robertson) services to the club. The incoming president (Mr Chappell), said that Mr Rpbertson had done good work for the club, especially in connection with the club’s jubilee, and was deserving of the club’s,best thanks. Members discussed the question of uncompleted competitions, and Mr H/. Donald moved that the club be not represented in the champion of champions competitions unless the club competitions were completed, the winning players to represent the club. Mr Donald explained that his object was to lighten the duties of the selector, and the motion was carried. _ It was resolved that the entry fees in all competitions be paid before the commencement of the second rounds. The formation of a ladies’ club was discussed. It was pointed out that there had been no application to play by the ladies, and it was finally resolved that the matter be held over for 12 months. The fixing of the opening day of the season was left in the hands of the executive. "• The delegates to the centre were instructed to recommend that interclub competitions be commenced earlier in January. One new member was proposed for membership. MOCK COURT There was a large -’attendance at the Enfield Hall on Thursday night, when the Enfield Assizes were held. A big calendar was dealt with, causing much tun and amusement. Charges against well-known residents of the district were varied in nature, and the mock court created a record for Enfield in that not one of the offenders escaped punishment. The Mayoress’s Relief Fund will be considerably augmented by this effort, about £2O being collected for this purpose. The court was conducted by a party from Oamaru, Mr Howard Bailey (judge). Mr J. M'Lean (clerk of court), Mr H. J. Grater (counsel for the prosecution), Mr Jacob Mitchell (counsel for the defence), and Messrs Graham Diekel, M'Donald, and C. Rowe (court officials). TOTARA SCHOOL JUBILEE A meeting of the Totara ex-pupils and teachers was held in the Totara Hall on Thursday night. There was a good attendance, and this augurs well for the success of the jubilee. Mr R. Needs occupied the chair, and extended a hearty welcome to those present. Mr Needs said that, the jubilee would fall on June 18, 1933. but the meeting could decide whether it should be advisable to bold it on that date or at Easter. It was decided to set up a committee of 17 to deal with the various arrangements in connection with the celebrations, the following being appointed:—Mesdames Third, ,D. Smith, S. Robinson, Misses V. Clark, R. Doak, Keating, Messrs R. Needs, W. Wallace, W. Needs, M. Sinclair, S. Wilson, V. M'Donald, R. Moir, C. Hollow, D. Martin, D. Clark, and D. Hollow. It was unanimously decided to hold the jubilee celebrations during the Easter holidays, from Saturday to Monday inclusive. It was decided that 11 of the committee form a quorum. Mr R. Needs was elected chairman, Mr S. Wilson deputy-chairman, Messrs R. Moir and C. Hollow joint secretaries, and Mr D. Hollow treasurer. Mr Mqir outlined a scheme for the guidance of the committee,, and stated that the school was opened on

June 18, 1883. On the first day 28 pupils attended, while on the second 33 were present. Since the opening of the school to the present time 1200 had attended. Mr W. Wallace, who was also present at the meeting, was'in attendance on the second day after the opening of the school. It was decided to hold the next , meeting of the committee on September 22.
