BOROUGH OF ST. KILDA
MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night and was attended by the Mayor (Mr J Beattie), Crs H. H. Leary, C. Conn, T. D. B. Roy, J. Carhian. G. Glue, W. G. Baird, A. D. Edgar, and E. Longworth. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Lowei Hutt Borough Council suggesting that with a view to obviating or. at least reducing, the payment of premiums for the insurance of relief workers under No. 5 scheme, a representative deputation should wait on the Unemployment Board.—lt was decided to reply explaining that the St Kilda Council had already taken action in the matter.
An invitation was received from the secretary of the Otago Expansion League for representatives of the council to be present at the league’s annual meeting It was decided that the Mayor and the Deputy-mayor (Cr Leary) represent the council. A letter was received from the secretary of the Domain Board suggesting that the board might, with advantage, now resume control for maintenance purposes, of the band rotunda reserve, as it was felt thal numerous improvements might be made in the locality as part of the general scheme now in hand for the beautifying of the entrance to the beach at St. Kilda.—Cr Longworth said that they could not but agree that the board had effected a vast improvement to the entrance to the beach and he thought that they could not do better than agree to the board’s request. —lt was decided to' hand over control of the reserve to the board. ST. KILDA BAND. It was decided to make a grant of £SO to the St. Kilda Municipal Band for the period ending June 30, 1933, the council to' waive all claim to any share of the revenue accruing from collections. 1 WATER CONSUMPTION. The town clerk (Mr W. G. Griffin) reported that water consumption for the fortnight ended at noon that day was 4,331,000 gallons, at a cost of £IOB 5s 6d, compared with £lO9 11s 6d for the previous two weeks.—Noted. OFFICERS’ REPORTS. The borough foreman (Mr J. ClymaJ reported that during the fortnight ended on July 2 his staff had been engaged on tar-patching footpaths and streets, draining Victoria road, carting stone for Vic toria road, and carting spoil. About 250 relief workers had been employed during the period in forming footpaths and flanks of roads, grassing streets, etc. —The report was adopted. The traffic and sanitary inspector (Mr D. Mann) reported that during the fortnight ended that day he had renewed 48 drivers’ licenses, and had issued two heavy traffic licenses. No notifications of infectious disease had been received.—The report was adopted.
