iPERSONAL The Rev. J. W. M’Kenzie, of the Port Chalmers Presbyterian Church, has accepted the call to the Epsom (Auckland) Presbyterian ■ Church, Mr M'Kenzie expects to leave Port Chalmers in about five weeks’ time for-. Auckland. RAINFALL FOR JUNE The rainfall in Port Chalmers for the month of June, as registered at the Sawyers’ Bay reservoir, was 8.12 inches. Rain fell on 19 days. The total rainfall for the six months ended on June 30 was 27.32 inches. WHEAT FROM AUSTRALIA The Union Company’s cargo steamer Kaikorai, which has just been recommissioned at Port ■ Chalmers after having been laid up for about nine months, will proceed to an Australian port to load wheat for New Zealand. The vessel will make several trips to the Dominion with such cargoes. The Kaikorai had her compasses adjusted off the end of the (George street wharf yesterday. She is expected to sail to-day for an Australian port, where she will load her first cargo. prospecting party A party of seven men under the leadership of Mr Walter Bayne left Sawyers’ Bay yesterday morning to prospect for gold in the Pomahaka district. The sum of £8 10? raised a little while ago at a euchre party and dance has helped to purchase a good deal of their equipment. The men will also receive a Government subsidy while prospecting. progressive league The annual meeting of the Port Chalmers Progressive League, which it was intended to hold last night, was postponed until Monday, July 11. The mam reason for the postponement was to_ enable the members to attend an entertainment held in the Town Hall in aid of the local unemployed relief depot. CONCERT AT TOWN HALL An audience which filled the Port Chalmers Town Hall to capacity last night was provided with a . bright and versatile entertainment, given by the Bluebird Concert Party, from Dunedin, and several local artists. The concert was promoted to assist the Port Chalmers unemployed relief depot, and the people responded to the appeal in such a liberal manner that the sum of about £l7 was collected The Port Chalmers Brass Band assisted in the effort by playing several spirited selections in front of the hall. The Mayor (Mr J. Watson) briefly explained the nature of the work undertaken by the Relief Committee. _ The concert was the first promoted in aid of the unemployed. The committee was ahard working one, and the promoters ofthe entertainment had every reason to be satisfied with the result achieved. The committee was greatly indebted to Mr J. T Ramsay, organiser and director, and the members of the Bluebird Concert Party for their assistance and for providing such excellent entertainment. _ The programme was as follows: —Piano solo, “The Scarf Dance,” Miss J.
