(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, July 3. AGRICULTURE IN EDUCATION. Mr J. Garfield Anderson, principal of the South Otago High School, delivered an address to the members of the Clutha branch of the Farmers’ Union last night on the subject of “ Agriculture in Education.” The address, which dealt largely with the theories of scientific agriculture, was attentively listened to and highly appreciated, and it was felt that steps should be taken to make more use of Mr Anderson’s manifest willingness and ability to help. In the course of tlv* urd.naiy business of the branch that preceded the lecture correspondence was read from Mr C. Barnes, of the Railway Department, regarding alterationes to the yards at Stirling, and it was decided to leave the matter in abeyance until the department made another move. Mr J. T. Walter was made an honorary member of the branch. —It was resolved to send a letter of appreciation to the Otago A. and P. Society for the manner in which the society had conducted the calf competition at the Winter Show, and also tbe competition in connection with the boys’ and girls’ clubs. RUGBY FOOTBALL. Results of football on Saturday were: —Senior: Clutha 6, Star 3; Toko 3, Crescent nil; Clinton 6, Valley nil. Second Grade: Waitahuna 6, Toko 4; Coast 11, Clutha nil; Union 12, Waihola 3. At the weekly meeting of the South Otago Sub-union transfers approved were: —J. M'Donald, Training College to Clin: ton; and W. Elliott, Kurow to Clinton. Correspondence was received from the Otago Union instructing sub-unions to carry out the rules regarding the nonreplacement of injured players and teams remaining on the field at half time, unless the referee permitted otherwisc._ —It was decided to abide by the instructions, at the same time protesting against such drastic rulings. Mr J. Murdoch, of Milton, was appointed South Otago selector of the combined country team to play Southland on July 23. The i Crescent Club forwarded information regarding the Toko-Crescent Junior Grade incident at Milton, when the Crescent team refused to give the referee their names. The team had gone to Milton without a manager, otherwise the incident would not have happened.—lt was decided to issue a general warning to the team and to ask the club to see that a manager accompanied the team in future. The Rev. F. J. Handy was appointed referee for the Western Districts-South Otago match, to be played at Balclutha on Saturday, July 9. The following have been selected to represent South Otago on Saturday in the representative match: —Roy (Clinton), Hannay, Jackman (captain, Owaka), Henderson (Clutha), Stanway (Crescent), Barron (Star). Pringle (Toko), A. Hanson (Toko), T. Hughes (Crescent), J. Latta (Owaka), Sewell, A. Orr (Clinton), E. Richardson, H. Anderson (Star), Bellaney (Valley). Should any of the above players not be available, Townley (Crescent) and R. Orr (Clinton) will be the reserves.
