NEWFOUNDLAND GOVERNMENT EARLY , RETURNS IN ELECTION. ST, JOHN’S, June 13. Early to-day the Opposition was leading in four constituencies, and had an elected candidate in five. The Government was leading in only one constituency. The defeat of the ; Prime Minister (Sir Richard Squires) by Mr Harold Mitchell by a majority of 600 in Trinity South was conceded at noon, when there were only a few polls still to be reported. In all constituencies not actually decided the Opposition had a leading position, and in most cases an overwhelming majority. The Opposition Leader (Mr F. C. Allerdice) was well ahead in St, John’s West. GAINS FOR OPPOSITION. ST. JOHN’S, June 13. The final returns from six out of 26 constituencies show one Government and five Opposition victories. Nine returns report steadily increasing gains for the Opposition. Dr H. M. Mosdell (Independent)) a former member of the Squires Government, was elected without opposition.
