THEFT OF EGGS

LARGE QUANTITIES STOLEN POLICE MAKE AN ARREST. , (Per United Press Association.)AUCKLAND, May 19. * Over 150 dozen eggs, valued at £l6, have been stolen from the premises of the Auckland Poultry Producers’ Association in Mount Albert. The eggs were taken on two different occasions—first, a lot of 80 dozen, and next 73 dozen. The eggs were laid by birds in competition, and the, lots were packed ready for sending to the association’s selling agents.

Recently a window at the back of the building was broken open and the thief removed two boxes containing 30 dozen eggs each and another box with 20 dozen eggs. As this meant a loss to the association of about £8 steps were taken to secure the window against further entry. A new pane was put in and a barricade was erected inside the window.

Last Sunday night the building was again entered by the same window. The thief cut out the glass pane and removed the barricade. Again the eggs, were boxed ready for the market, and the thief found the task of removing them a comparatively easy one. The window is at the back of the premises away from the main road. The property has several trees upon it and anyone could enter the building without much risk of detection. The thefts have not interfered with the competitions as each bird’s record is carefully checked before the eggs are packed. The police have made an arrest.
