A REMARKABLE STORY

M. DOUMER’S ASSASSIN OBSESSED BY IDEA OF MURDER PARIS, May 17. Gougouloff told the examining magistrate an astonishing story. He said he was for long dominated by the idea of killing M. Doumer. On the day of the murder he went to Notre Dame and prayed for hours to dispel the obsession, but failed. He even vainly tried to provoke a policeman to arrest him by inquiring what would happen if he murdered someone. After that he went to a cafe and drank a bottle of cognac in an unsuccessful attempt to get drunk, but the idea of murder persisted. He went to the book sale and was in a state of hypnosis when he shot M. Doumer.
