FRIENDLY SOCIETIES
FORESTERS. The fortnightly meeting of Court Woodland’s Pride was held on Monday, May 9, in the lodgeroom, Embassy Salon. The chief ranger, Sis. E. Alcorn, presided over a large attendance of members, and was ably assisted by a full staff of officers. The woodwards reported haying visited a number of sick members during the fortnight, and sick pay claims amounting to £4 os were passed for payment. A letter was received from the grand secretary of the Royal Antideluvian Order of Buffaloes expressing' appreciation and thanks for an invitation to visit the court. Invitations were received from Courts Queen of Green Island. King Edward’s Pride and Court Pride of Dunedin to meetings during the month. A letter from Court Southern, Invercargill, was received inviting two members as representatives to that court’s twenty-first anniversary meeting on Thursday. May 19. It was resolved to acknowledge the letter with thanks, and convey to the court congratulations and fraternal greetings as no members could got the necessary leave to attend the function. The secretary read a circular letter from the combined Foresters’ Ball Committee asking for cooperation and support. One new member was initiated into the Order, the ceremony being ably carried out by the chief ranger and her officers. At the close of the meeting the officers and members of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes were received and welcomed by the chief ranger, and a social evening in the form of a dance was held, about .10 couples taking the floor.
