DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs J. Wjlson (chairman), F. T. Anderson, S. B. Macdonald, H. A. B. Brabant, J. L. Salmond, W. A. Scott, and F. Wilkinson. Superintendent J. J. Salmon, in his report on the work of the City Brigade for the month of April, stated that the calls attended were; Fires 5, chimney fires 8, rubbish and bush 4, false alarms —automatic 4, malicious 3, justifiable 2; making a total of 26. A garage and contents on the Main South road were destroyed, and a man had his arm's and' hands burned. The remaining four fires were of a minor nature. The fires were caused by ignition of petrol two, back-fire one, lime heating one, unknown oue. ,The property affected was one shop, one railway truck, one dwelling, and one motor car. All authorised work at the Centra] Station had been completed. ■ The repairs and painting ,';uthorised at the South Dunedin Station had been completed, and a start made with the work of renovating the interior of the building. The staff, which wan now at full strength, had been engaged on routine work pending further work being authorised. All the plant was in good working order. Motor No. 1 was being converted into a salvage van to replace No., 7. transferred to the Green Island Station. The engine house at Green Island was now ready for occupation. It was contemplated sending the motor to Green Island during this week. The pressure at the Central Station had been: —9 a.m;, 1101 b; 9 p.m., 1501 b. At South Dunedin Station. 801 b and 1201 b: at Roslyn Station. 1101 b and 1201 b. The St. John Ambulance transported 54 patients and travelled . 827 miles during the month. The report was. adopted. The General Committee reported that requisitions for .various stores had been approved, and that accounts amounting to £BOO 6s had boon passed for payment.
