MR E. A. RANSOM, M.P., MINISTER OF LANDS

—— “THE WILL TO THINK AND TO ACT NATIONALLY” A MEANS TO RESTORE PROSPERITY I have pleasure in responding to the request of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association that I send a message in support of its “ Made in New Zealand Week.” It is an accepted axiom that good must arise from adversity; and I believe that (one result of the prevailing depression will be to strengthen in our people the will to think and to act nationally. Could a better outlet for the expression of this sentiment be found than in supporting local manufacturers by purchasing New Zea-land-made goods, thus increasing the scope for the employment of our people? New Zealand cannot fulfil her destiny as a nation on the foundation of her primary industries alone, but must build up efficient secondary industries in proper relationship to the primary. Only the support of our people can bring about this desirable consummation, anti J. tnereiore join with the promoters of the “ Made in New Zealand Week ” in their appeal to the X’esidents of Dunedin and district to purchase New Zealand- , made goods, thus assisting in bringing a return of prosperity to the Dominion.
